Kristy Muir, MS, CPDT-KSA
     Behavior Consultant

Kristy completed her undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. While attending UNCG she was fortunate enough to work in Dr. Cheryl Logan’s animal behavior lab. Upon graduation Kristy accepted an Advanced Animal Behavior Internship at Walt Disney’s Animal Kingdom. During this time she developed an interest in captive animal training and welfare. Since completing her internship she has worked as a zookeeper and animal trainer with big cats, giraffe and elephants among other species.  Although she now spends most of her time helping domestic pets and their owners, Kristy still works occasional days as a zookeeper locally as well as a behavior consultant for zoological institutions across the nation.

Kristy Muir completed her master’s degree in behavior analysis with a focus on animal training under Dr. Jesus Rosales-Ruiz at the University of North Texas. During her time at UNT she worked with the research group Organization for Reinforcement Contingencies with Animals (ORCA).  Kristy is passionate about research and strives to stay current on the latest research on behavior modification and training.  Having completed her thesis on the effectiveness of using a jackpot in applied animal training she is especially interested in issues of reinforcer effectiveness and magnitude.

Kristy is an ardent supporter of rescue and has been actively involved in the rescue community for several years with duties ranging from foster care to board positions.  She currently volunteers her services as a behaviorist to local rescue groups.  Kristy and her family share their lives with their Boston Terrier, Mei, the charming Catahoula Leopard Dog, Gatsby and the lovely Layla cat, all of whom were adopted from shelters or rescues.
